the back, in sizes 6 months and 12 months, the length from the cast-on row to the underarm is 51/2” and 6” respectively.
For the back, in the 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month
sizes, the length from cast-on row to the beginning of the garter stitch border for the back of the neck is 8 ½, 9
¼ and 10” respectively.
Establish
garter stitch border for back of neck:
Next Row, Sl 1, k 48 (53, 59), pm for garter stitch border at back of neck, k28 (30, 32), place marker
for other side of garter border at back of neck, k remaining 49 (54, 60) sts.
Next Row: (WS) Sl
1, k2, p 46 (51, 57), sl m, k 28 (30, 32), sl marker,
p 46 (51, 57), k last 3 sts.
Next row: (RS) Sl 1, k all remaining sts. Next row: Repeat previous WS row.
Shape
back of neck:
Next row (RS) Sl 1, k 48 (53, 59), pm, k 3, bind off
22 (24, 26) sts for back of neck, K 3, pm, k remaining sts.
Sleeve length:
Work sleeve until it measures
7 (7 and a half, 8)’’ in width from cast-on stitches,
ending with rs row at sleeve cuff.
Finish shaping left sleeve:
Next row: WS: Maintaining garter stitch
border, bind off 36 (39, 45)sts (first 3 are knit, remaining
sts are purled.) Purl until 3 sts remain on left needle, k 3 turn.
Left front: Continue in St st on left
front, maintaining slipped stitch selvage and garter stitch border at center edge. At the same time, continue to increase
2 sts on each right-side row just after completing garter stitch border at center edge until there are 45 (49, 51) sts on needle.
Work even (without increasing or decreasing)
until piece measures approx. 4 ½, (5, 5 1/2)" (11.4, 12.7, 14cm) from sleeve cast-off, ending with a WS row.
Knit next four rows for garter
stitch border. Bind off.
